Lots of people were excited when Pharrell Williams took on the position of creative director at Louis Vuitton Men at the beginning of the year, and the American rapper, songwriter and music producer has certainly managed to inject his unique brand of energy into the brand's menswear collections. His debut show for SS'24 was wildly successful - with big names like Beyoncée, Jay-Z, Rihanna, Zendaya, A$AP Rocky, and more spotted in the front row, as the designer presented the maison's menswear in Paris on the iconic Pont Neuf bridge. And it's safe to say his sophomore show for men's Pre-Fall'24 wasn't any less spectacular.
The show was staged in Hong Kong at the Avenue of Stars, a prominent water promenade located in the heart of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour, which was first built in 1982 and later revamped in 2004 as a tribute to the city's legendary film stars. Victoria Harbour itself goes back as far as the 1400s, serving as a trading port and epicentre of cultural exchange; and its waterfront position clearly resonates with Williams, who grew up in Virginia Beach. The creative director uses the clothes to also emphasise his new "LVERS" philosophy - which is a nod to Williams' hometown motto: "Virginia is for lovers".
The theme of the sea runs strongly through the collection, with clothes inspired by surfers and beach-lovers. Ideas of travel, connection and love are also woven in, paying homage to "the core values that bind us together across the world, from Hawaii to Hong Kong and everywhere in between".
