It can help you unwind and even break bad habits; here’s how to make mindfulness work for you…
So, what’s it all about? Put simply, mindfulness is a way of bringing us gently into the moment, where we can stop fretting about the past or worrying about the future, and just simply exist in the here and now. Regularly practising mindfulness has been shown to have such a profound impact on happiness that it is now even being examined scientifically.
Easy to apply to everyday anxieties and stressful times, mindfulness helps you to relax, concentrate, sleep better, lose weight, and generally feel more positive. It’s relatively easy to do, and it can change your perceptions, help you relate differently to experiences, and release you from unwanted negative habits. While practising mindfulness certainly won’t wipe out all your life stresses, it can help you deal with them better.
How do I start?
With small steps that help you break old habits. Kick off with a simple breathing practice, then bring the ‘be in the moment’ idea to other areas of your life, like walking and eating – see the next page.
