Is there a special meaning to the word “naked” in the brand name?
The word is there because it is the first time chosen malts are meticulously blended with grain and then poured into what we call our “naked casks”. These casks are left alone to hold sherry – the sort of sherry that can have the character to match up to the malts. A rich dark sweet Oloroso sherry that lingers long in the fibres of the wood long after the liquid has gone. The blended whisky is introduced to the sherry seasoned casks and we leave them for six months. So after about six months, or depending on when it is ready, we release it, give it a quick chill filter and remove any grubbiness that has happened in the cask. We then bottle the liquid as The Naked Grouse.
