Early mornings with Antonia Achache and Jérémie Sabbagh usually mean freshly pressed organic pineapple juice with some crisp sourdough topped with a cavalcade of avocado and roasted tomatoes. (Patrons of their Mumbai restaurants Suzette and Kitchen Garden will vouch for their culinary elegance.) Their very first breakfast together, back in 2005, was a lot more basic. Two cutting chais packed in plastic pouches and a packet of Hide & Seek biscuits hastily picked up by Sabbagh from a neighbourhood store in Munirka Vihar, Delhi. Achache, his girlfriend at the time, was staying with him for a few days until they moved to a bigger apartment. They fondly recollect their run-down one-room tenement with a landlord who had a reputation of being, well, a murderer... “We’ve significantly upgraded our lives now,” laughs Achache, “but we still like to keep things simple.”
