How is Etihad Cargo leading the digitization drive?
“The cargo and logistics industry is commonly known for being technology laggard, with tedious booking processes and unnecessary paperwork. Etihad Cargo’s commitment to revolutionizing the company, placing digital transformation and innovation at the core of the new business strategy, underpinned a renewed customer-driven culture within the organization. The digital transformation has enabled the company to offer its customers a platform that seamlessly manages all its air cargo needs.
“A little over 12 months ago, Etihad Cargo embarked on a digitalization transformation that has already recorded significant improvements for both our own processes and also for our customers. We implemented our microsystem on 1 October 2018, which consisted of a full overhaul of booking processes and platforms with the successful migration of front-end systems to the market-leading SPRINT – an IBS iCargo fully integrated technology platform that combined six legacy Etihad platforms into one.
“Since implementation, we have handled almost half a million bookings through iCargo, 20 per cent of which were logged directly via our website. We have also grown our monthly online booking rate from virtually zero to 33.7per cent– a significant milestone achieved at a speed unprecedented in the industry.
“iCargo represents just the start of our journey that has changed how business and operations are handled. We are progressing with the implementation of data-driven processing to ensure we are placing our customers’ needs and preferences at the core of what we do. Our enterprise data lake supports feeding key internal and market data to an interactive data visualization tool Microsoft PowerBI, which has allowed us to build our state-ot-the-art Cargo Control Centre.

Future Cultural Challenges for Airlines And Airports
Introduction Assuming we are all alike is one of the greatest mistakes we human beings are making all the time. Another mistake we constantly make is to assume that our way of doing things is the only right way. So when people do things differently e.g. how people queue up or what we ascribe status to we try to educate them to do or see it our way. This is usually not well received and a conflict starts.
