Spirits are the second-most important segment in the global alcoholic drinks market by value. The segment only includes distilled alcoholic beverages (including blended or mixed beverages), whereas strong alcoholic drinks gained by fermentation are part of the Cider, Perry and Rice Wine segment and non-alcoholic variants (mocktails) are out of scope. The global market for spirits has been mostly driven by premiumisation as volume demand has been mostly flat or falling in developed markets.

In global comparison, most revenue is generated in China (US$125,531m in 2020).

Revenue in the whisky segment amounts to US$80,586m in 2020. The market is expected to grow annually by 7.6% (CAGR 2020-2023).

In global comparison, most revenue is generated in India (US$18,791m in 2020).

In relation to total population figures, per person revenues of US$10.83 are generated in 2020.

The average per capita consumption stands at 0.8 L in 2020.

Vodka worldwide

Revenue in the Vodka segment amounts to US$42,057m in 2020. The market is expected to grow annually by 8.0% (CAGR 2020-2023).

In global comparison, most revenue is generated in the United States (US$18,803m in 2020).

In relation to total population figures, per person revenues of US$5.65 are generated in 2020.

The average per capita consumption stands at 0.3 L in 2020.
