LUCY Chamberlain, AG’s fruit and veg expert, reported that blackbirds were pecking holes in the fruit from an apple ‘Discovery’ recently, adding that the birds took one peck from lots of fruits rather than sticking to the first one. Were they trying to find the sweetest? It is frustrating that birds attack fruits in this way, and we have similar experiences with plums and strawberries.
