IN these difficult times, each harvest is keenly awaited – and tomatoes are among the most popular crops. If started in warmth from mid-winter, they will soon start producing under cover, although this will be weeks later grown outdoors.

More light and warmth always helps, so clean your glass or plastic, as this can make a great difference. Next, carefully remove all side-shoots (those coming from leaf joints; they can be potted to grow extra plants). Leaving side shoots on the plants retards flowering and makes congested growth.
