If I only had the space to grow one plant this summer it would have to be a cherry tomato. Why? Because they are such prolific producers of the sweetest lolly-like fruit — so good in fact, I tend to eat a lot of them straight from the plant!
Last year I grew a tiny blueberry-sized tomato called ‘Candyland’ — that was incredible. I’d pop a bowl full of them on the kitchen bench and everyone in the family would wander past and grab a handful for a tasty quick fix.
If you’ve never grown tomatoes before then start with a cherry tom; they are so easy to grow and such heavy croppers. These pint-sized delights also come in a range of colours including yellows, blushed pinks, ruby reds and even blacks.
They’ve got to be the easiest tomatoes to pick and eat, too. No need for chopping; just drop them into a salad or eat them whole as a snack.
