The Need To Emulate The Ultimate ‘Mother Kali'
Food & Health|May 2019

The pictorial representation of Mother Kali is, at first glance, a strong and fearsome image.

The Need To Emulate The Ultimate ‘Mother Kali'

Kali is a Hindu goddess, usually depicted dancing on the prostrate figure of Lord Shiva. She is black in color with four arms, her hair is disheveled and her tongue lolls out of her mouth. She has four hands — holding a decapitated head, a sword, a bowl of blood which she drinks and the lower right hand displays the Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness). She wears a garland of human heads and her skirt is comprised of severed arms.

Although the image of Kali is often strange and bizarre to the eyes and minds, the image of the Goddess only attempts to portray the possibilities and potentialities of what Women are actually capable of and also represent the benevolence of a mother.

Each Hand of Mother Kali symbolizes how Women being unbelievably multi-faceted, juggle about a million roles with enormous Shakti & Power. One of a Mother, Wife and others like Sister, Daughter, Friend, Business woman, Nurse, Teacher, Caregiver, Psychotherapist, as required at different points of time. But the one hand that gets shoved to the back and is never portrayed is “SELF-CARE.”

Fulfilling the desires, who on the surface looks Goddess like and powerful, yet with the calmest, softest demeanor, most women forget – or even disregard – the need to take care of themselves. The modern mother might be overtly worried about the health of her child and the wellbeing of her family while juggling hard between her career and domestic responsibilities.

In ‘Doing it all,’ they Neglect the Extravagant Wealth of Health.

Women need to know - You have to put on your oxygen mask first. If you go to pieces, everyone around you is going down with you. Although a tough concept for a lot of women, Self-Care is completely healthy and not selfish or narcissistic. The key, is for women to recognize the difference between being selfish in a bad way and being selfish in a healthy way.
