Punya Srivastava talks to transpersonal coach and author Suzy Singh about her latest release 7 Karma Codes and discovers the fascinating process that birthed the book
Ma, what did you say this homa was called? she asked softly.
'Antarman shuddhi homa, it means purifying the darkness of your inner mind. Antarman refers to your innermost core. All your life impressions are stored in here. It is the storehouse of all those big balls of pain you have. So when you ask God to take those pain balls away, you request Him to remove even those of which you may not be aware. These include the errors and pain of your ancestors that you inherited when you were born into this family.'
'So does this mean I will no longer feel the pain now, Mumma?'
'Ah! Now that is indeed a pertinent question. The homa purifies the inner mind, burning away the dark clouds of delusion that block clear thinking. It awakens the desire to rise above your unhappy state and inspires you to act accordingly. Then, by doing whatever needs to be done, you move yourself from pain to peace.'
'So you mean the homa will not take my pain away? She asked pouting in disappointment.'
'The homa purifies your mind and allows clarity, purpose and courage to dawn. The rest must be done by you, darling. Only your actions can make you peaceful or keep you in pain. So yes, you will need to do more, but the homa will clear your way, it will encourage you to do what needs to be done.'
'But I don't know what else to do Mumma. Who will show me the way?'
'I will my beautiful. I shall teach you all I know, but for now, tell me how do you feel?'
She wriggled her shoulders as if checking them out and then looked at me knowingly like an adult. 'You know Ma... I feel so light... just like I do when I take my schoolbag off.'
