LIFT YOUR garden GUTTER FROM THE GUTTER
Better Homes & Gardens Australia|December 2021
If your garden is tiny, this space saver will double as a water feature and yield tasties such as strawberries and flowers for colour
LIFT YOUR garden GUTTER FROM THE GUTTER

Brighten up a boring spot and create a lovely water feature at the same time! Not into the recycled look? Simply use new lengths of Colorbond steel guttering for a sleeker look.

Turn that leftover guttering from a recent reno or that stash you found under the house into a hydroponic garden. With a couple or three tilted gutters placed vertically, and a concealed pump, you can have a continuous flow of water to irrigate your garden of summer annuals. Just add liquid fertilizer.

EASY STEPS TO A HYDROPONIC GUTTER GARDEN

Gather your supplies

• Guttering and stop ends

• Brackets to suit guttering

• 90 x 45mm treated pine

• Fired clay pebbles

• Large pot

• Pond pump

• 13mm irrigation pipe and fittings

• 1/2in copper pipe

• 15mm pipe saddles

• Plants such as marigolds, strawberries

You’ll also need

Hacksaw; drill; 3mm drill bit; pop rivets; pop rivet gun; silicone; caulking gun; 30mm screws; drill; geotextile fabric; pond sealer; paintbrush; aquatic epoxy putty; pipe bender; liquid fertiliser

Here’s how

STEP 1 Cut guttering into 3 equal lengths with a hacksaw.

STEP 2 Place stop ends in one gutter flush with the end. Use 3mm drill bit to drill 2 holes through the back of the gutter and tab on the top end.
