Scent Up With Citrus

Forget aromatic candles-fill your rooms with a fresh, living fragrance
Scent Up With Citrus

Choose a dwarf variety of citrus if you want to grow it in a container and move it indoors in winter. Standard citrus trees grow way too tall for most indoor spaces.

1 relax with a bit more zing If it suits your decor, choose an orange coloured calamondin, which grows better indoors than the more common yellow lemon. You can even slice your calamondin – a cross between a cumquat and mandarin – and use it as a lemon substitute in your gin and tonic.

2 turn on the winter lights Cumquats are pre y li le oval-shaped gems that will brighten up long, dark, winter evenings when you’re stuck indoors. These tiny parcels also make a great pick-me-up snack, with the tingle of sweet-tasting skin and tart flesh, plus the bonus of vitamin C!

TOP TREES

Cumquat

Pop a whole fruit into your mouth for its sweet-tasting skin and the tangy burst from the fruit.

Calamondin

It looks like an orange, but is a dwarf cross between a cumquat and a mandarin, and is the ideal indoor tree.

Thai lime

Also called kaffir or makrut, its warty, green, thick skin smells divine. The leaves are handy for a Thai curry.
