AS DESIGNERS, WHY DO WE MAKE WHAT WE DO? AND AS LOVERS OF THINGS, WHY DO WE LOVE WHAT WE LOVE?
In these manic times of excessive consumption, transience and a depleting planet, what gives an object ‘reason to exist’? How does an object add value to our already cluttered lives? Does it connect with us emotively, to transcend time and to sustain, not just physically but in our beings? Does it uplift us from our everyday? Should beautiful objects and good design be for a privileged few, or is accessibility an important filter. In putting together objects for this show, we have considered these compelling questions. We paused to ask ourselves why we respond to certain objects, and began digging deeper to uncover the stories behind them.
What’s Your Story? was broadly divided into six clusters: Whimsy & Joy, Handcrafted Luxury, Nostalgia & Memory, Accessibility, Conscious Consumption, and Simplicity. We have attempted to present limited editions and luxe to mass-produced and accessible—each object chosen because it resonated with us as ‘good design’ –Tania and Sandeep Khosla
