That changed the way we live
Many modern inventions are taken for granted these days, but imagine a time where every little thing necessitated hours’ worth of preparations and plenty of moving parts and supplies! Want to bake a loaf of bread? Build a fire. Want ice cream? Be prepared to spend some time churning! This month, we celebrate the Inventor’s Month by shedding some light on the amazing inventions that have changed our lives.
1 THE INCANDESCENT LIGHTBULB
The humble lightbulb has come a long way since its inception in the 1800s. Where they had previously signaled the beginning of a new era, one of modernization and industrialization, today’s lightbulbs serve to promote eye health and ambiance at home. Imagine our ancestors in the middle ages, requiring tens of candles to generate enough light to read at night; in our day, barely a moment passes in which we are afforded some manner of light, whether from fixtures or our technological devices. And with advancements in renewable light and high-efficiency energy-saving lighting options, it’s safe to say that science has come a long way.
THE FUTURE: Smart lighting systems controlled by apps on smartphones seem to be the way we’re headed! With this technology, the concept of energy efficiency is further explored, lending to more sustainability and human accountability for our shared futures. And let’s face it; having lights that automatically turn off when no one is in the room is absolutely a cause for celebration.
