Nestled in the upmarket Medan Damansara neighbourhood, the husband and wife team behind ELD Sdn Bhd had their work cut out for them in the renovation of this end lot terrace link house. Architect Leong Seng Kheong and interior designer Eelin Loo had met the owners socially a while back and became fast friends. As such, when the couple decided to transform the house they had been living in since they got married 12 years ago, they looked to Leong and Loo.
The clients gave the designers carte blanche in the concept and spatial planning; their only criteria was that they wanted a contemporary from the outlook while keeping the internal cosy and spacious. After all, the couple now also has two kids. “We tore down eighty percent of the house. Extending sideways and upwards allowed us the freedom to reconfigure the whole layout and increase ceiling heights, by layering the spaces and allowing more light to filter into the whole house. By doing so, we managed to create an open concept feel to the house. And the spaces were not so cut off from each other as before. We started by carving out their required areas, and from there we looked into the light quality and openness of the spaces,” explains Loo.
