MELVYN KANNY
ARCHITECT
That holds true even from an Architect’s perspective. A home is a place that you can call your own, it’s your refuge, your chill-out space, your social pad, your castle! Homes need to have spaces for socializing, entertaining, cooking, dining, contemplating, and resting; and all of these components need to come together gracefully and effortlessly. There must also be choreography in the way the spaces unfold as you move through the house, how it lets the sun in and keeps it out when required, how the breeze permeates through the spaces and how the rain can be experienced and how the garden becomes an extension of the interiors. A home is the ultimate expression of your lifestyle, values, and aspirations. Every individual is unique and so must their home reflect that individuality. The homes that we design all have a distinct character and personality and this cannot be achieved without working closely with the owners. We try to figure out their tastes, likes and dislikes and encapsulate their ideas into hopefully a beautiful house. Quite often they are pleasantly surprised by the outcome. That’s the magic of architecture, to achieve the client’s brief and requirements, yet the built-form could be significantly different from their expectations.
