Planning a visit to Cape Town these holidays? Make sure to pop into Boschendal wine estate, where you’ll find heaps of gardening inspiration.
Ride your mountain bike, take a stroll through the vineyards, or enjoy a picnic on the estate – and if you spend the night, you can swim in the farm dam. Sounds like the perfect holiday, doesn’t it?
Boschendal, one of South Africa’s oldest wine farms, changed ownership in 2013 and since then this historic estate has become a hive of activity. Gardeners looking for inspiration should definitely put a visit to this estate on their holiday to-do list.
The new 2.5ha vegetable garden is a must-see for keen gardeners. It was previously the site of a pear orchard but over time the old trees were removed, leaving the land fallow for a while.
Then the idea to lay out a massive veggie garden in that part of the estate – a stone’s throw from Werf restaurant – was born. This was the start of an authentic farm-tofork experience and today the various eateries on the estate – Werf is just one of them – serve freshly picked fruit and vegetables straight from the garden.
