Holiday homes in Scottish seaside towns can be rather hit or miss, particularly if you’re a fan of good design. Finding one with the right number of bedrooms and bathrooms in the right location, available on your dates, can be a tall order, so it’s no wonder the compromise is often on the decor – and that much of your subsequent break is spent regretting the leatherette sofa or the chintzy curtains. Now, though, if you’re planning a jaunt to Elie at least, the need for compromising is over.

Jamie Robertson and Tara Macdonald, who run Elie Select, have put together six unique and really quite magnificent holiday homes in the East Neuk town, from a beautiful 17th-century former customs house to a cool, contemporary eco house.
