My interior designer, Deirdre Wilson of Wilson & Co. Interiors recommended Kerwood Designs,’ the owner explains. ‘From the moment I met Ben, we hit it off. I felt he understood exactly what I was trying to achieve.’
There were several elements to the brief, but overall design harmony was key. From the outset the owner was keen to establish a sense of continuity, an organic flow running from the front of the house through to the extension at the back.
‘The previous kitchen had been set in an L-shaped extension,’ she continues. ‘The dark cherry wood furnishings made it sombre and, although we painted and tried to modernise it, there was still a lot of wasted space, making functionality an issue.’
The re-design of the ground floor of the property resulted in a fabulous open-plan layout, a perfect setting for this bespoke new scheme. But maximising storage without sacrificing aesthetics or symmetry can be a challenge. Fortunately, in this kitchen, Ben’s creative input proved invaluable.
