Best Of... Front Gardens

01: A NATURAL WONDER

Putting its best foot forward, this classic Queenslander boasts a front garden that looks more like a tropical oasis than a front yard. Designed by Regenerative Designs, the garden features drought-tolerant Australian natives and sustainable landscape design principles. Informal yet elegant, the low maintenance space incorporates steps constructed using large recycled railway sleepers. Bright Anigozanthos (kangaroo paw) in ‘Tall and Tough’ Landscape Gold and Landscape Tangerine, Themeda triandra (kangaroo grass), and Lomandra hystrix (green mat rush) feature heavily in this garden. A specimen planting of Crinum pedunculatum (river lily) serves as a focal point near the entryway, while a mass planting of Casuarina glauca (swamp she-oak) suppresses weeds and reduces erosion. They are drought-tolerant plants, so supplemental watering is not necessary. Photos by Bonnie Jenkins Photography. regenerativedesigns.com.au
