Elle chose a Shakerstyle kitchen to suit the era of the property, and the dark colour gives this a contemporary boost. ‘It was a toss up between green and blue, and I still love the blue two years on,’ says Elle.

As the kitchen is south facing, it can take a much darker shade without appearing gloomy. The white walls and quartz worktops create a strong contrast to the blue.

They say home is where the heart is, and for Elle, Whitley Bay is the only place to be. Being close to the Northumberland countryside, the hustle and bustle of Newcastle and with a beach on the doorstep, it’s not hard to see why this is an ideal family location. ‘I grew up in Whitley Bay, so for me there’s nowhere else that compares,’ says Elle. ‘When this large period property came on the market, I knew it was the house for us.’
