As we all adjust to the “new normal” due to COVID-19, so should our bathrooms – for example not having to touch your tap when washing your hands. In this feature we look at how far bathrooms have come. They used to be a space where we spent as little time as possible – now they’re sanctuaries where we relax and de-stress.
SLEEK, SMART AND ENERGY-EFFICIENT
Bathroom sanware has evolved hugely. Look at Bathroom Bizarre’s range of tap mixers from leading sanware manufacturer Roca. With over 100 years of experience, Roca presents the Malva range of Cold Start taps. “[These] Roca taps fitted with the Cold Start function have the lever in the centre of the tap,” delivering only cold water when opened, says Sandy Turner from Bathroom Bizarre.
When hot water is required, the lever can be moved gradually to the left to increase the temperature. In this way daily rituals that don’t require hot water can be carried out without turning on the geyser. This reduces energy consumption, which lowers household bills, she adds.
According to Ferreira Tile + Bathroom design executive Monika Krolewicz, the Hansgrohe range of taps are all sustainably designed and use the latest technology, such as EcoSmart and CoolStart, automatically reducing water and energy consumption. Not only are the taps eco-friendly, but beautifully designed. The Metropol is a particular favourite due to its elegant geometric design. The mixer has various handle options either closed or looped.
