Timeless Victorian Bathrooms

The classic Victorian-style bathroom has been with us for years and remains a firm favourite for most. Experts reveal why this trend never goes out of fashion.

WHAT’S HOT

While trends may come and go, the classic style of a Victorian-inspired bathroom is timeless.

Patterned encaustic-type floor tiles are a wonderful way to evoke this trend – there are so many options to choose from, says Liza Watermeyer of Tile Africa. “Pair these patterned classic floor tiles with metro or subway tiles. When shopping, consider size, shape and colour.”

According to Sandy Turner-Webber of Bathroom Bizarre, bathroom design has changed significantly over the decades, with the Victorian style remaining popular even today.

Porcelain tiles play a big role in the design of these bathrooms, so if you’re looking to recreate the style, that’s a good place to start. “Floral-design porcelain tiles are currently popular, along with a freestanding claw-footed bath such as the Hampshire bath from Bathroom Bizarre.”

Michaela Easton of hansgrohe says: “We’ve noticed a big trend currently for Victorian-style sanitary products in colour, especially gold, paired with very small tiles and darker walls.”

Wood is in at the moment, so wooden bathroom cabinets or shelving with steel, styled with Victorian taps and showers, are on-trend, she says.

Bathroom Butler’s Andrew Taylor agrees that the Victorian-era bathroom is as popular as ever. He says it’s designed to impress, featuring narrow and tall spaces, beautiful decorative trims and bay windows.
