Could the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon be a Major soon?
A ROSE IS NOT A ROSE. We’re not about to argue with Shakespeare, but on a scientific platform, something has to have all the qualities and features that define a rose before it can be accepted as one.
That is precisely the case of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM). Currently recognised as a Gold Label event by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF), it hopes to join the six largest and most prestigious of marathons – the Berlin, London, Tokyo, Boston, Chicago and New York races – to become an Abott World Marathon Major (AWMM) Event.
It goes without saying that a successful bid would tremendously improve Singapore’s position in the sporting event circuit, and open a world of possibilities related to the event.
