HURRAY FOR THE PLANET. Electric vehicles are becoming a more common sight. In fact, this year will see the largest ever number of offerings from European carmakers. Aware of the need to persuade drivers to make the switch, they have invested solidly in eye-catching design and seamless performance, and put driving pleasure in prime focus. Their Asian counterparts will not be outdone either. With brands such as Kia, Hyundai and Nissan pitching a slew of attractive models, the automotive landscape in Singapore is beginning to look much greener. Exciting times.
PORSCHE TAYCAN
Arrival in Singapore: Q2/Q3 2020
Arguably the most eagerly awaited of all the electric vehicles that are due to arrive on our shores, the Porsche Taycan is the company’s first electric sportscar.
The first models that are set to arrive in Singapore will be the Taycan Turbo S, Taycan Turbo and Taycan 4S, with the two “Turbo” models among the most powerful production models that Porsche currently has.
The flagship Turbo S variant generates up to 761 horsepower in combination with Launch Control and the Turbo produces up to 680 horsepower. In comparison, the 4S has a “mere” 530 horsepower. As you would expect, the cars’ other performance metrics are equally jawdropping. The Turbo accelerates from zero to 100kph in 3.2 seconds, while the Turbo S obliterates the same sprint in 2.8 seconds. The 4S is no slouch either, with a perfectly respectable four-second century sprint.
