THE DAYTONA RENAISSANCE is going strong. Having gone seven years without an update from 2016 to 2023 (the 60th anniversary of the Daytona), last year’s Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona releases, which included the cool black-dial stainless steel Daytona reference 126500LN, elevated the luxury sports watch collection aesthetically and technically.
Last year’s Daytona came mostly in white and black dials, a reversion to classic elegance. The cases are still 40mm, but it is half a millimeter thinner than the Daytonas of old, making for more pleasant everyday wear. The slimmer silhouette does not forsake performance — the case is still an Oyster, guaranteed waterproof to a depth of 100m.
With last year’s releases, Rolex also introduced the Calibre 4131. One of the most prominent featues of the calibre is the patented Chronergy escapement, a nickelphosphorus escapement that improves on Standard Swiss lever escapements through more effective materials working and the re-orientation of the escapement’s components. This affords the calibre exceptional energy efficiency and reliability, giving these new Daytonas an impressive power reserve of 72 hours.
