1 TIME TRAVEL AT BEESTON CASTLE
OPENING WINTER 2019/2020
It’s been a labor of love. English Heritage, with the help of more than 60 volunteers, has painstakingly recreated a Bronze Age dwelling at Beeston Castle. We’ve known since the 1970s that people lived on this rocky crag well before the medieval fort was built. Now archaeological evidence has been gathered and authentic tools and building methods used to faithfully reconstruct the thatch-roofed, wattle and daub building that once stood here. It’s a rare chance to see how we used to live, 4,000 years ago. english-heritage.org.uk
2 JODRELL BANK CELEBRATES 75 YEARS
EVENTS THROUGHOUT 2020
In 2019 Jodrell Bank had two big reasons to celebrate – the 50th anniversary of the Lunar Landings, and a successful bid to become Britain’s latest Unesco World Heritage Site. But the party didn’t stop at midnight on New Year’s Eve. In 2020, the world-famous observatory turns 75 and will be rolling out new talks and tours exploring the heritage of this site, which has had such a huge impact on our understanding of the Universe. Plus the blue dot festival of music, science and cosmic culture will return for its fifth year in July. jodrellbank.net
