Yuzvendra Chahal

In this very special issue we decided to feature the new age cricketing sensation, Yuzvendra Chahal. Fondly known as Yuzi, with the mind of a chess player and skills of a leg spinner, he has taken the bowling strength of the Indian team to a whole new level. Not many would know, Chahal has also represented India internationally in Chess at youth level. The spinner came into the public eye after taking 24 wickets in 2009 National Under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy. His 6/25 makes him one of the only two players to get a six wicket haul in T20 history. His first stint in the IPL was with the Mumbai Indians and 2014 onwards he was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore which he counts as the turning point in his life. Chahal has played 84 IPL matches and has already claimed over 100 wickets. Yuzi eventually became the most successful bowler of RCB in IPL. He is well known for his right-arm leg break googly. In this exclusive interview with Delhiites, Chahal talks more about his lifestyle, work and credence.

What are your views on the current Indian cricket team?

Well, I suppose this current team is full of young blood. I have played with most of the youngsters when I was 19. Talking about the seniors, they are outstanding. The amount of warmth and guidance my seniors give is unbelievable. There is no sense of fear when it comes to approaching them. Exhibiting freedom to contact them at any hour of the day is just remarkable. The kind of aura they have maintained, makes us all feel like family. It’s truly a blessing.

How do you feel to be a part of the Indian cricket team?

I feel when you start with a sport and you represent your country for the same, it is a great feeling. The last two years have been the golden years of my life because I have continuously been playing for the country. I think there is no better feeling than representing your nation world-wide. It is a dream come true.
