GQ: Hermès ties have always been an iconic accessory. Where does the Hermès tie see itself now, in a post-pandemic world that has so deeply impacted the way we dress?

Christophe Goineau: The role of the tie hasn’t changed; it brings a touch of colour, elegance, style—and something that speaks to us. However, we have noticed that our customers come back with a strong desire for something new, with a twist. Over the last decade, we’ve seen the tie become a joyful accessory, one that you can change faster than ever according to your mood, wish, frame of mind…. With a return to a semblance of normalcy, ‘outdoor clothing’ returns.

GQ: What are your thoughts on how the tie will factor into that—will it stay a daily go-to? Be a marker of an occasion?
