With MyRepublic entering the telco space, Singaporeans have never had more choice when it comes to a mobile plan. And with a fourth telco, TPG telecoms, entering the market later this year, we anticipate a price war as all seven (soon to be eight) service providers battle each other for customers.
It only makes sense not to tie yourself down to a lengthy contract, but who’s offering the best SIM-only, no contract plans right now? We find out.
VALUE PLANS
The cheapest deal here is obviously Circles.Life’s $0 Flexi Plan. However, unless you’re a very low usage customer, you will probably have to top up for some additional services, and the add-on options are actually quite expensive. Additionally, it’s worth noting that incoming calls are not free on Circles.Life, so if people call you frequently (which includes anyone you don’t know, like telemarketers), you’ll quickly burn through your 30 mins of bundled talk time. Topping up for additional talk time is also quite expensive, at $5 for just 30 mins more. Finally, you’ll need to buy at least one add-on every three months to keep the line active or use the line as your primary number (by porting over an existing mobile number or using it to receive one-time passwords for online banking and shopping via the line.)
The best value deal here is My Republic’s Uno plan, which gives you more than enough talk time and SMS, along with free Caller ID, and no excess data charges. While the base plan’s 1GB isn’t very much, you can top up $12 for 3GB, which would make your total monthly bill $20 for 4GB, much better than every other option available. The only problem with the Uno plan is that it requires an invite code from a My Republic broadband subscriber. If you don’t know anyone who can give you one (all subscribers get five invite codes each), the next best deal is M1’s mySIM³ 20 plan, which gives you a decent amount of talk time, SMS, and data for $20/month.
