“Our body is constantly talking to us. It is designed to give us warning signs before things get worse. This is usually when we should look within, and adjust our lifestyles to prevent those little nudges from turning into full-blown problems.
Some of the common symptoms my clients often come to me with range from muscle aches and gut-related ailments to mental health conditions like anxiety and hypertension—they are all manifestations of a deeper dent in their lifestyle that they wish to improve through the practice of yoga. Amongst its umpteen benefits, my favourite part about yoga is its holism. You may set out to treat the nagging pain in your neck or your ballooning levels of stress, but what you end up achieving is usually much more. Whether you are looking to dial back physical, hormonal, or cognitive problems, simple asanas can relieve some of your everyday stresses.
If you’re experiencing excessive pain around your neck and back, it’s most likely owing to a sedentary lifestyle. Poor posture makes your muscles weak, restricting blood circulation to your organs. Sluggish circulation can also deprive your skin and hair of the oxygen and nutrients they need to look and feel healthy. Practising bhujangasana (cobra pose) and virabhadrasana (warrior pose) will help relieve these pains and increase blood flow.
