... And one for all. This Pre-Fall ’19 season and beyond, Amy Yasmine discovers how fashion bridges the gap between gender norms, as designers share one unifi ed vision.
If there’s one takeaway from the recent Men’s Spring ’20 collections, it’s that there is no right answer as to who wears the pants. Both on and off the runways, wardrobes have been interchanged while role reversals have become nothing short of the norm. In Shanghai, Mrs. Prada’s offerings for menswear this coming year includes microshorts and tightly belted blazers, while on the streets of Fashion Week last February, the style set had become advocates of Diane Keaton’s off -kilter perennial style. Think loosely tailored trousers worn with a statement bucket hat (see: Yoyo Cao), or an oversized blazer combo with sneakers that wouldn’t look out of place at Silicon Valley. Personally, I too have followed suit: Instead of binging through the women’s rail at a boutique, I find myself perusing along menswear pieces—while online, the likes of Mr. Porter and SSense have become my go-to shopping haunts, favouring cult selects from Haider Ackermann, Ann Demeulemeester, and current London Collections: Men star, Grace Wales Bonner.
