As the most affordable member of Matrix Audio’s range of products, the Mini-i Pro 3 goes further than any other device here in blurring the margin of operating as a DAC and something else entirely. Judged as a DAC, it’s competitive with the other devices in the group as you get a USB input (the only one here via a USB-C port), one optical, one coaxial and a Bluetooth receiver that supports everything bar the Huawei-specific HWA format (which the iFi includes). It has the only I2S connection in the group – on an HDMI-type socket – and it’s one of only two DACs here with an IEC mains socket for power.
