Huawei doubled the cameras and AI on their Mate series devices in two years

Huawei’s rise to the top to the global smartphone market really began with the Mate 10 series that was launched in September 2017, with used Huawei’s in-house Kirin 970 processor, the first mobile processor on the market with a dedicated AI neural processor unit (NPU) for machine learning. This enabled the Mate 10 to be the first smartphone that could recognise words and characters in an image and translate them with Microsoft Translator app.
