<div style="page-break-before:always; page-break-after:always">If you&rsquo;re a long time reader of NXT magazine, this article may seem like deja vu, but yes, you&rsquo;re memory is actually correct and you have read about the Huawei Mate X in the pages of NXT, exactly one year ago in the Gear segment! A lot has happened to Huawei since then, primarily due to their continued listing on the U.S. Entity List, which blocks Huawei from purchasing and licensing American hardware and software, including Google Mobile Services. Huawei also took note of the early negative reviews of the initial Samsung Galaxy Fold, and wisely held back the Mate X till they could modify its hinge and screen technology. The Mate X actually went on sale in November last year, but only in the Chinese market, and the rest of the world had to wait about four months later for the updated Mate Xs.Like the original Mate X, the Mate Xs is a foldable handset, utilising a revamped &lsquo;Falcon Wing Design&rsquo; that puts constant pressure on the screen as it unfolds so that there is a minimal crease line. The screen also uses a double layer of aerospace-grade optical polyimide, a synthetic polymer known for its low weight and high resistance (Kevlar is a type of polyimide), though as a trade-off the material costs three times its weight in gold. In the closed configuration, the two screens of this device wrap around the outside of the body, with a 6.6-inch front screen and a 6.38-inch secondary screen that folds behind the main screen, docking with a sidebar that also houses the camera module. Depress the toggle on the sidebar, and spring-tensioned secondary screen pops out, so that you can fold it 180-degrees to get a full 8-inch OLED display.<img src="https://magarticles.magzter.com/articles/12273/434871/5ebe891da478f/1589545269_loc.jpg"" owidth=780 oheight=520" style="width: 780px; height: 520px;" />Improvements over the original Mate X include an upgraded Kirin 990 5G octa-core processor with integrated 5G modem, 8GB RAM, and 512GB onboard storage, with the ability to accommodate nano memory cards up to 256GB. The Mate Xs also has a SuperSensing Leica Quad camera module with four cameras - 40MP wide-angle, 16MP ultra-wide-angle, 8MP telephoto, and a 3D ToF camera.
