Is the Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber a luxury retro-bike or a modern classic?

What makes a great “modern retro” bike? Keep that question in mind while we explore the 2017 Moto Guzzi V9 Bobber. “Bobber” refers to the bike style from the 1930s that had mechanics removing as many parts from them as possible or replacing them with simpler ones to create light and minimalist machines. The Bobber is one of two V9 models with Moto Guzzi’s new V-twin new 853cc engine.

While the other model, the “Roamer” has more delicate styling accents that include chrome shocks and exhausts, the Bobber has more of a brutish look, featuring short fenders and a matt finish, as well as straighter handlebars than the Roamer which forces the rider to arch forward a little more. The Bobber also has a thicker but smaller 130/90R16 front tyre that gives it more stable curve holding and greater stopping force from the same powerful front Brembo brakes found on both models, although its brother turns into sharper curves more willingly.
