Sixty-four 26.7cm (10½in) squares of assorted grey fabric Sixty-four 26.7cm (10½in) squares of assorted bright orange/gold print fabric 218.3cm (86in) square of wadding 218.3cm (86in) square of backing fabric 90cm (1yd) dark grey fabric for border and binding
FINISHED SIZE
Approx. 208.3cm (82in) square
PREPARATION
Use ¼in seam allowance unless otherwise stated.
Making the blocks
1 To make one block, use the Orange Peel appliqué template from the Pattern Sheet to mark then cut one shape from the orange fabric, adding a ¼in (6mm) turn-under allowance by eye.
2 Using either the starch and press or soft edge’turned appliqué method overleaf, prepare your shape for appliqué.
3 Pin the prepared appliqué to a background square, ensuring that you have left ¼in (6mm) allowance at the corners.

Down By The Riverside Competition
Back in May we launched a group design competition, in partnership with Lewis and Irene. Each group who entered was given a 10m length of the stunning ‘Down by the Riverside’ border print and the brief was to design a quilt to incorporate it. The entries were a varied and gorgeous mix of designs and choosing the winning quilts was a challenge. However, judging by the overwhelming response from visitors to the Popular Patchwork stand at The Festival of Quilts, we are confident in our final choice.
