In celebration of Louis Vuitton's bicentennial birthday, 200 visionaries lent their artistic talents and unique perspectives to the creation of 200 trunks that interpreted different aspects of the founder and the brand. Having debuted in December 2021 at the founder's historic home in Asnières, Paris, the travelling exhibition packed up in March 2022 and continued its global journey with its next stop: Singapore.
"200 Trunks, 200 Visionaries: The Exhibition" was held at Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza from 4 to 27 April, and we had the pleasure of visiting it in person to take a close look at each imaginative piece. Among the visionaries who contributed to the exhibition were London-based visual artist Kate Daudy, who created a toy chest in the shape of a sheep with 199 baby sheep nestled within; British stylist Ibrahim Kamara, who translated his high fashion virtuosity into a black box flocked with birds "returning to their nest"; Franco-Chilean fashion historian Pamela Golbin, who put the founder and Madame Vuitton front and centre in her creation; China-based cross-media artist Cheng Ran, who created a "cat house" for young creators; and Danish toy production company LEGO, whose birthday tribute to Louis Vuitton came in the form of a brick-built birthday cake.
