His ‘kool’ quotient is in sync with every generation, his ‘karismatic’ personality awes people beyond the boundary of gender, his kinglike lifestyle makes him stand out among his contemporaries and nobody brews their ‘koffee’ like Karan does. Ladies and gentleman, presenting to you the one and only—Karan Johar. Well, I was supposed to take his interview with the same confidence level, but read on to find out how it worked out…
Growing up watching and loving his movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Karan Johar was never less than a Khan to me. And then came Koffee with Karan, which just established him as one of the coolest people in Bollywood. So, when I got the opportunity to interview him, I could actually imagine a Koffee With Karan episode, with tables turned. In spite of it being my first big celebrity interview and that too with someone who was the best person in the country to do the job, I had fine confidence because there was an imagined vibe of comfort with Karan that anyone of my age could resonate to, all credit to him. But this feeling sort of diminished two days before the interview when the Koffee With Karan episode with Varun and Alia was aired. At the end of the episode, both of them interviewed Karan, something that I was supposed to do with him at a later date. Karan effortlessly answered their questions and did what they asked him to do with utmost patience and fun. But after that, he followed it up with these three closing statements on Varun and Alia:
I am so glad that you could de-construct someone who constructed you
I am so glad you got these presents because one thing you didn’t get at the end of this was perspective
I wish you all the best for the release of your film Badrinath Ki Dulhania. I hope you have a producer after that
After this, my confidence level literally went for a toss and I could imagine myself being thrown out of the Dharma Productions office. So, I quickly opened my list of questions on my phone and ruled out the controversial and some more personal ones.
