With Ranveer Singh-Deepika Padukone already married and Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas’s script in progress, Society looks at the tinseltown relationships that have created a buzz.
Everybody knows them. Viewers gravitate to the theatres to watch their films. Newspapers and magazines splash their photographs and interviews. They are ever-present on the small screen. They are among the most powerful influencers on social media.
Bollywood stars are everywhere. Permanent fixtures on the top of the pops list, their eventful lives are followed with obsessive interest that can be only matched by a few leading Indian cricketers. Love is a timeless emotion, and marriage, a commonplace reality. When stars get hitched, however, the media goes on an overdrive to ferret out nuggets of information about the event.
YOU ARE PART OF ME
Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone’s marriage in November is the newest flavour of the season. Ever since the West manufactured the portmanteau Brangelina to refer to Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie who have now parted ways, Indian media has followed suit. Deepika and Ranveer are being collectively spoken of as DeepVeer. Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma became Virushka not long ago. Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan gave rise to the first Indian celebrity portmanteau, Abhiash, a few years earlier.
Ranveer Singh’s former girlfriends include Anushka and Ahana Deol, while Deepika had dated Nihar Pandya, Siddharth Mallya, Yuvraj Singh and Ranbir Kapoor earlier. Having chosen each other as life partners, however, Deepika and Ranveer got married on November 14 and 15 in Italy.
