Dr Ranjan Kapoor, Area Director - Spa & Wellness, Six Senses Resports and Spas in Thailand is quite an authority on wellness. After educating himself intensively in the line, he is of the view that ‘wellness’ is a broader concept, and goes above and beyond physical health and fitness
Please share your professional and educational background.
I am a qualified Ayurveda Doctor from Punjab, and went on to do Graduation in Body Treatments, Lymphatic Drainage, Hopi Ear Candle Treatments all from CIBTAC UK. I did Post Graduation in Aromatherapy, International Spa Treatments, Aesthetics all from CIDESCO Zurich.
What inspired you to be a part of this industry?
After graduating from medical college, I worked with multispecialty hospitals in Punjab and Kerala. At that time I realised that in hospitals we treat only diseases only, but health is not the absence of disease, but a physical, mental, social and spiritual balance of the body. The wellness industry has a holistic approach that balances all entities of our life, be it physical, emotional, intellectual, social, environmental, and above all, spiritual. This complete approach interested and inspiried me to join the industry.
What is the USP of the Six Senses Spa?
At Six Senses, we have an integrated approach towards wellness. At the spas the Wellness Practitioner scans your entire body and measures your health biomarkers. It gives readings on your BMI (Body Mass Index), body waters, hormones, mineral levels, spine and liver function and a lot more. Based on your results, a fully customisable programme for the rest of your stay are arranged. Far from a novelty, these results can be taken to another Six Senses Spa to allow you to continue on your path to improve those levels. Without straying too far from the holistic approach, the Six Senses Spa embraces technology which allows for a more targeted treatment for the body and mind.
