What is Burnout? - Burnout is extreme fatigue caused by constantly feeling inundated with work. It's a result of excessively emotional, physical, and mental stress. In most cases, burnout is always related to one's job and the usual workplace headaches. Burnout happens when people are overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to keep up with their life's endless demands. But whatever the cause, job burnout can affect a person's physical and mental health.
Symptoms of Job Burnout
They become cynical or critical at work
They lose interest in their jobs and have to drag themselves to work every day
They become angry and impatient with coworkers, customers, or clients
Nothing interests them anymore and they feel they have no energy to do any productive work.
They find it hard to concentrate on routine tasks
They feel dissatisfied with their achievements
They tilt towards excessive eating, drugs or alcohol to feel better
They don't get enough sleep, have frequent headaches, panic attacks, health problems, and so on.
Causes of Job Burnout
Lack of control in the workplace.
Bad bosses, toxic customers, and troublesome Co-workers.
Downsizing threats.
Excessive workload, no proper budgets, insufficient staff, unclear job expectations, toxic performance appraisals.
Office work never ends even on weekends and holidays.
Frequent outstation travel and a long commute to work.
A monotonous job with little scope for promotions, no interesting job options elsewhere due to age and health issues.
