Can a minimalist and a mess-maker enjoy a happy marriage? Author and comedienne.
They say the inside of your car is the window to your soul. So imagine my horror when, some time ago, I moved Into an actual house with the owner of a messy car. Admittedly, to start with, the occasional build-up of newspapers and car magazines appeared quite manly and even quaint.
Fast forward a few years... and we have invested in a second paper-recycling bin, as well as a storage unit that has sections for things that should have been thrown away. You're already talking serious investment of gear just to, Her, store gear that the messy person can't bear to chuck.
Teetering piles of untended paperwork are especially irritating, springing up on tables and on bedside cabinets. Messy people don't recognise that they accrue paperwork, you see. And it gets messier. A typical exchange with a messy person can go like this:
Me: "Are you finished with that?"
Him: "Yes."
Me: "Shall I take it then?"
Him: "No."
Me: “Why?”
Him: “I like holding it.”
