Interesting offseason ahead

The Dolphins still need to put together some pieces despite taking a big step forward during the challenging 2020 season

Interesting offseason ahead

It’s pretty amazing how far the Miami Dolphins have come in just one year, isn’t it?

At this same time last year, we were talking in hopeful terms about the organization having the opportunity to take a step forward by upgrading the roster with all the cap space and draft capital it had.

Oh, the Dolphins took a step forward, all right. They took a gigantic step forward, right to the brink of the playoffs. In that vein, it was a highly successful 2020 season for the Dolphins, even if it did end in massive disappointment with the blowout loss at Buffalo.

But what that loss showed — against maybe the hottest team in the NFL in the final weeks of the regular season — was that work remains to be done for the Dolphins to be able to take yet another step.

The good news is the Dolphins again have a lot of draft capital and cap space with which to operate, though this time it’s two first-round picks instead of three and the cap space isn’t quite as generous.

But it promises to be an interesting offseason. Shoot, it got interesting almost from the moment the Dolphins returned to South Florida following that forgettable first Sunday in January.

We hadn’t even reached the midway point of January when already there were some major stories that needed to be monitored.

And most of them, not surprisingly, involved the quarterback position.
