Fifteen minutes from box to field!

FMS PA-18 Super Cub 1700mm
The FMS PA-18 Super Cub carries the striking scheme of a Super Cub built by Above Alaska Aviation for the Alaska Airmen 2016 raffle prize. Some raffle prize, eh? I’m thrilled to win a spare prop!

The Cub is made out of injection-molded EPO foam and includes fixed landing gear and easy plug-in wings. An optional float kit is available; living in Florida, I love float flying, so I was happy to receive them. Building the Super Cub is easy, and although it isn’t a trainer, it could easily be flown by those comfortable flying their first plane.

UNIQUE FEATURES

Most of the work required to get the FMS Super Cub ARF (almost ready to fly) in the air is done when you open the box. All the control surfaces are hinged using molded foam hinge lines. The fuselage and wings include details such as panel lines, fuel caps, vortex generators, and other tidbits.

The Super Cub comes with shock-absorbing main landing gear and big (6.25-inch!) bush-style tires. The floats are constructed out of foam with music-wire struts and include a servo-operated water rudder, which makes steering during water taxiing a lot easier. Large flaps give the model the same short takeoff and landing (STOL) characteristics of its big brother. The included LED light system has red and green wingtip navigation lights along with bright landing lights.

One neat feature is the multi connectors on the wing roots. Slide the wing onto the carbon wing tube, snap it in place, and both servos and all the lighting system connectors are connected in one shot. This makes installing and removing the wings a snap if you need to do so for transportation or storage.

The scheme consists of printed decals that are completely and expertly applied.

PRODUCT REVIEW: RC PLANE STANDS BENCHTOP MODEL

I’m a sucker for shop stuff. I buy tools I will probably never use just because they are cool, or I might need to use them someday. When Glen from RC Plane Stands reached out about a review, however, I knew as soon as I browsed their website that I would be receiving something I would use a lot, maybe even daily.
