Lucky to be alive

It’s a miracle Katy came back from holiday.

Can I do your back?’ my hubby Craig, 38, grinned, holding the sun cream.

It was October half-term last year and we were on holiday in Kos with our youngest, Leighton, 8.

Our eldest, Bradley, 19, had decided to stay home.

The moment we arrived, excited Leighton and Craig pulled on their trunks and jumped straight into the pool.

Meanwhile, I got comfy on a lounger, reading…

Five chilled-out days later, our lovely break was almost over.

Keen not to waste our second to last day, Craig booked a private boat tour of the coast.

I’m terrified of the sea as I’ve a phobia of sharks. But, feeling relaxed, I put on a brave face.

At 1.30pm, we set off towards Paradise Beach.

No sharks!

It was a bumpy but exhilarating ride across the waves.

When our boat stopped by a cove, Craig and Leighton both started snorkelling.

‘Come on, Mum,’ Leighton said. ‘A shark won’t get you!’

Not wanting to disappoint him, I slipped on my life jacket.

The water was cool and the boat’s captain picked up my camera and started taking snaps.

Ten minutes on, I’d had enough. I turned back towards the boat.

But, suddenly, an agonising pain struck like a thunderbolt in the right side of my neck, between my shoulder and ear.

‘Craig!’ I managed to shout.

Seconds later, everything went black…

Next thing, I woke up in a hospital bed. Feeling woozy, I scanned my surroundings.

I felt totally alone, but then I spotted a familiar face – Craig!
