Clare’s hubby fought for his life so he could meet their baby girl
Sitting at my desk, I suddenly felt queasy. I dashed to the loo and threw up my breakfast.
‘Maybe you’re pregnant,’ a colleague joked when I returned, looking pale-faced.
I laughed, but I was thinking the same. My hubby Kevin, 38, and I had been trying for a baby for ages.
He’d previously suffered colon cancer and, although he had made a full recovery, we were warned that the treatment could mean it took us longer to conceive.
Three years later, and still no baby, I was starting to fret.
So I took an early lunch and dashed home. I was sure I had a pregnancy test in the bathroom cupboard.
Finally, I found it and frantically unwrapped it. I shut my eyes while I waited for the result, couldn’t bear to look.
Eventually, I peeked through my hands at the little stick. And there it was – two big, pink lines.
‘Yes!’ I shrieked, delighted, jumping up and down.
I called Kev at once.
‘I’m pregnant!’ I blurted as soon as he picked up.
‘Oh, my God, are you sure?’ he replied.
I looked again at the test and there was no doubting the result.
Finally, we were having a baby!
We wanted to keep our news quiet for a while but it was hard to wipe the smiles off our faces.
I counted down the days to my 12-week scan, when we could see our little bean for the first time.
Finally, the day arrived.
‘Everythinglooks great!’ said the sonographer.
