Packable 4K adventure drone is an instant contender.

Autel Robotics Evo

Folding drones are all the fashion these days. And no wonder—the ability to pack up a compact flying camera and head out in search of beautiful scenery or interesting events without having to hump a bulky full-size quad into the hinterlands opens up all kinds of possibilities. The big dog in the compact camera drone segment is of course DJI’s Mavic series, but Autel has audaciously taken the fight right to them with this new Evo, offering features that match or trump the Mavic’s specs. Competition is great for the consumer, and the Evo’s advanced camera, big battery, and a great display-equipped controller give buyers a couple of appealing advantages and a legitimate alternative on paper. But the proof is not in the specs box, so let’s see how the Evo acquits itself in the air.

Counting penguins is harder than it sounds. With freezing rain, snow, and chilling winds that limit the flight windows for the surveys, it takes scientists using three full days to map the location of 300,000 nesting pairs of Adélie penguins on Antarctica’s Cape Crozier.
