Players Edition 6609 Broadkaster with Neville Marten

Neville Marten
Gretsch

Last time I wrote about this gorgeous Players Edition Gretsch Broadkaster my intention was to use it on a series of rock ‘n’ roll shows I was about to undertake (sorry to go on about it!). Well, in fact I didn’t get to do that, for no other reason than my Gibson ES-335 beat off all comers in the ‘suitability for the gig’ battle. It even knocked my beloved red Fender Custom Shop Strat off its throne – again, for this specific show, and particular set of numbers. Part of it is that I ended up playing acoustic for three-quarters of the night, and when I switched to electric I needed instant familiarity; plus, the ES-335’s peculiar mix of plummy warmth and ‘quack’ seemed just what the doctor ordered.
